WHAT IT IS

A fixed-roof composite cabin for the 79 Series single cab. This is the chassis-mounted expedition habitat design that's everywhere in Europe. It mounts straight to the chassis on a steel subframe, so it sits lower and lighter than a slide-on. Standing height inside, possibilities for a lengthways bed over the cab, a side entry door and a storage locker.

Walls, roof, floor and cab-over are fibreglass-skinned insulated composite panels, a solid insulated core with nothing inside it. That matters on a winter night, because framed campers sweat along every frame member, and that's where the damp, the mould and the rot start. Here the insulation is one continuous layer right through the corners, so the inside stays dry and the same temperature wall to wall. The only place anything passes through is the door frames.

With a diesel heater in your fit-out it's an all-seasons camper. I've been comfortable in the pop-top version at -13°C in a Japanese winter.

Inside is a clean, insulated cabin. You fit it out the way you want it.

PRICE AND HOW A BUILD RUNS

$55,000 NZD including GST, fitted to your truck in Christchurch.

30% deposit secures your build slot. 40% before final painting. 30% at completion.

This is a limited first run, and slots go in order of deposit. Lead time is around 12 to 14 weeks from deposit. Most 79 single cabs take longer than that to arrive, so the cabin is usually waiting for the truck.

Full terms, including warranty, are in the build agreement, which you get before any deposit is paid.
